Fifty years ago, the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom was held. The march featured prominent activists, organizers, politicians and performers and 200,000-300,000 participants calling for greater civil and economic rights for African Americans.

3828548994?profile=originalThe March, and the movement that made it happen, called into question the paradox of the United States. The strong moral framework we hold on paper to be true has always had gaps - for People of Color, women, LGBT people, poor people.

When Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. made the historic declaration, "I have a dream", his words inspired millions who shared the hope that the American Dream would someday come true for their families.

Just a decade later, TransAfrica was founded in an attempt to address the paradox between the American Dream and the American Reality most of us experience. Since 1977, TransAfrica has advocated for U.S. policies that spread our values- respect for all life and human rights, empowerment, dignity, representation and self-determination- throughout the world. We are thrilled about the work that we've accomplished at home and alongside our brothers and sisters throughout the world.

But we know there is more
work to be done.

Won't you join us as to create a national agenda that includes the priorities of our communities?

In Washington, DC, and throughout the country, community organizations will gather to talk about moving the agenda forward. Conferences and summits are taking place throughout this week and next around the 50th Anniversary March on Washington: Realize the Dream March & Rally. For more information check out the full list of activities

If you can't make it to Washington, follow us on Twitter @transafrica and @NationalAction or watch our Facebook page throughout the weekend for updates from DC.

Hell no, I won't go. MLK was killed because he was getting ready to take action, spiritual and economic action. If he were alive, he would not be supporting another march on Washington for JOBS (Just Over Broke) and freedom. He would be advocating Blacks to start businesses and quit taking 98 cents out of every dollar and spending it with White people. You wonder how White people can live so good? Well, they are living off their salaries and yours. That's why we have sky high unemployment because we have few Black businesses. Did you know that if we Black people who spend 10% of our income with Black businesses we could ELIMINATE Black unemployment? Did you know that each dollar earned by Blacks will stay in a Black neighborhood less than 10 hours? We get paid on Friday, Saturday we go out to play, Sunday we go to church and fall down on our knees to pray and then we face Stormy Monday. Why? Because we are broke again and have to go back to work at a dehumanizing job for little pay and no future.

It is time to quit talking and start acting. Dr. Claud Anderson has spent years researching and documenting exactly what our problem is and how to solve these problems - institutionalized racism. Yet, we continue to march around in circles and 50 years from now we will be doing the same dumb shit.

Wake up Black America! Restore your relationship with your God first of all. If you have not figured that much out, we are in very bad shape. Black on Black crime, teen-age pregnancies, absentee fathers, aimless and corrupt leadership, lack of a nation empowerment plan of action, ethno-aggregation and vertical integration in the market place is impossible without our restoring our relationship with our God. Our ancestors turned their backs on God and that's why we are in the shape we are in today.

Proof? Read Deut.28:15-68 and tell me who, in all of human history, has experienced such curses? Then read Gen.15:13, 14 to discover how long it will last. Now, the question is: Are we ready for our enslavement to end? Are we prepared for liberation and freedom?

My Black brothers and sisters, it is time. Time to start that spiritual quest for our true identity instead of playing out roles dictated to us by our Master - the Global White Supremacy System. It is time to break free from almost 400 years of brainwashing and recognize who we are, as a people. It is time for all of us to stand up as men and women and stop shaming and humiliating our ancestors, who dealt with this insanity as few can. It is time to utilize our creativity and re-discover our glorious past, present and future.

We are the saviors. Stop looking up at the sky expecting God to do it for you when you can do it for yourself. After all, He made you in His image. Let's get busy getting our spiritual house in order, then work on restoring the Black community. More later. Peace.
