Chicago-Midwest

3828562333?profile=originalDonnie McClurkin, Jr., a gospel music singer and a minister who has won three Grammy awards, ten Stellar awards, two BET awards, two Soul Train awards, one Dove award and one NAACP Image award, will preach a two-day revival at Saint Sabina 7 p.m., Monday, March 10, 2014, and Tuesday, March 11th, at Saint Sabina Church, 1210 W. 78th Place.

Born on November 9, 1959 in Copiague, New York, McClurkin has seen and been a victim of sexual child abuse. When he was 8-years-old, his 2-year-old brother was the victim of a hit and run accident and after that his life was one big nightmare. His great uncle sexually abused him and two of his sisters were druggies.

Young McClurkin turned to church as an escape. In 1989 he became an associate minister in Detroit, and in 1991 he was diagnosed with leukemia. Rather than be treated, he turned to God and was ordained in 2001 when he established Perfecting Faith Church in Freeport, NY.

In 2002, McClurkin professed to the world over a Christian website that while he had struggled with homosexuality he now rejected that lifestyle. “I’ve been through this and have experienced God’s power to change my lifestyle. I am delivered and I know God can deliver others, too,” he said.

His decision caused him to be disinvited from the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington where he was to be a featured performer.

McClurkin is walking on faith and holding fast to his belief in God and is a strong believer in the power of prayer.

This is a FREE event and all are welcome.
