CVS Shoplifter Death Now An 'Active' Investigation

Pressure Escalating On Police, Prosecutors To Probe Circumstances Of Homicide

CHICAGO (CBS) ―

*******************************************************************************************************

Editors Note: We commend CBS2 Chicago and other media for reporting on the fact that the choking death of CVS Pharmacy shoplifter Anthony Kyser is now an open police investigation versus the former "accidental" ruling that had immediately followed the incident. Our thanks go to Congressman Bobby Rush for responding to my call on behalf of other community activists that our leadership speak up on this issue and that it was wrong for this to be ruled simply accidental when the Medical Examiner rule it a Homicide. And we still call on new Police and Fire Chaiorman Alderman Anthony Beale for a complete hearing on this matter that can result in some new stronger public policies to ensure safety among store employee's and suspected shoplifters.

We disagree with CBS Legal Analyst Irv Miller in that the CVS employee's actions were justfieid when in a more serious confrontataion scenarios at bank robberies that employees are encouraged to come from outside the immediate store premises, leave the store, and down an alley in life threatening environments to aprehend an alleged shoplifter and apply a choke-hold, ignore suspects pleas of the inabilty to breathe, and untimately take his life.

I am fighting a 40 yr old battle in Augusta GA. 6 unarmed black men were shot in the back (some multiple times) by cops. Sometimes people think just because a person is engaged in an illegal act, it gives the police to use deadly force.

Corey -- I hope you have the support of Rev. Al Sharpton's organization in Georgia.

I hope justice will be served and the employee charged with murder.

I should have been more specific. The media watered down the story of the riots and I am trying to tell the comprehensive story that does not excuse the police or the racist conditions that black people lived under in 1970.
