Acting for Africans

When the Late Babu and myself nominated Taj I was not familiar with the Borderland issue. Babu would have been sice he was a Zanzibari. What I realised was that Taj did not have much reading background on Pan-Africanism. He had much enthusiasm.

He chose to go the way of the poltical leaders of state Pan-Africanism such as Salim, who was head of the OAU and Butros Ghali, SG of the UN. Like Salim Taj took an Arab wife. That was the option he chose. You'd remember that Nkrumah had done the… Continue

Acting for Africans

Dear Alfred and friends

Thanks for the variuos comments. I am as busy with Sudan/Borderlands issues as I was in Juba. Right now I

am preparing a paper for the Sudan Studies Conference at the University of South Africa in Pretoria in November. The

presentation, if it is accepted, will be partly based on the argument of Chancellor Williams on the falsification of African history by western scholarship.

Alfred - your coomments on Taj reflect my thinking, and are a… Continue

THE AFRICAN EASTERN DIASPORA IN ARABIA, THE MIDDLE EAST, NORTH AFRICA, THE GULF STATES AND POINTS EASTWARDS

It is a truism that Africans in general are not informed of their history. This assertion is repeated at page 161 by Wariz.O.Alli, in his contribution to the book ‘Africa and the African Diaspora’. He states that one of the major problems confronting African policy makers is their low level of appreciation of the African Diaspora. Many African leaders are not aware of the many possibilities of the African Diaspora. Lack of appreciation goes beyond denial of the Diaspora. Many are disinterested… Continue

ACTING FOR AFRICANS ON THE WORLD STAGE –TAJUDEEN ABDUL-RAHEEM – A LIFE OF SERVICE

Dr. Tajudeen Abdul-Raheem

ACTING FOR AFRICANS ON THE WORLD STAGE –TAJUDEEN ABDUL-RAHEEM – A LIFE OF SERVICE

If my memory serves me well, I first met Tajudeen Abdul-Raheem in London, where I was living involuntarily in 1988, whilst working the night shift at Rochelle Laundry, having left Rawling’s Ghana hurriedly. He was then Editor of Africa World Review and a member of The African Information and Research Bureau… Continue

THE AFRO-ARAB BORDERLANDS – AMBIGUOUS RELATIONS IN THE SAHEL REGION OF AFRICA

BF BANKIE:

‘ There are sizeable Black African populations in south Libya, northern Chad and south Algeria – but less in the latter. I can hardly see any African-Arab Borderlands in 100-500-1000 years. The African people will be freed and taking a lead, turning the tables on the oppressors’. Garba Diallo –Mauritanian

‘Chad is a Black nation with a minority of Arabs in the northern and eastern parts of the country. Yes, southern Libya and Algeria are Black…

DECLARE South Sudan Independence Now!

Anyar Ngang Alith:

I have been contemplating about writing this topic for a long time. But something keeps me from writing it. One of the days I went to bed at 12:00 midnight and I dreamt in my sleep that South Sudan had declared unilateral independence, and it had been recognized by a dozen nations in the region and internationally. So when I awoke there was no such news, and I guess my brain was screwed. Now what? I would get into my favourite subject of all subjects in the… Continue

New Sudanese terrorist alliance threatens a repeat of September 11

Abdullahi Osman El-Tom:

March 16, 2009 — It would be a mistake not to take the recent formation of an alliance of a “jihadist” group with due seriousness. By any measure, this alliance bears the hallmarks of a terrorist organisation with the potential for grave consequences, both nationally and internationally. Given Sudan’s strict control over its printed media, the lack of prompt and categorical dismissal of the news is a firm… Continue

THE AFRO-ARAB CIVILISATION DIALOGUE

BF BANKIE:

Due to its denigration of African culture Arabia, since it’s incursion into Africa, has seen the continent as a civilization vacuum waiting to be filled by Arab culture and Islam.

The painful fact is that it was only with the initiation of the current peace process between Khartoum, in central Sudan and Juba in south Sudan and the international focus on the genocide in Darfur, that it became apparent to the public at large, that from Mauritania on the… Continue

The genocide in South Sudan and Darfur and its implications

BF BANKIE:

There were two main migrations out of Africa. There was the first exodus of the original man ( Homo sapiens sapiens ), who was black and who settled all over the world. The next migration out of Africa was forced by slavery. Although the western Diaspora in the Americas, the Caribbean and Europe is known, the eastern Diaspora, which preceded the western Diaspora by a millennium, is not generally known. The African eastern Diaspora is found wherever Africans were… Continue

THE ROOT CAUSES OF THE WARS IN SOUTH SUDAN, DARFUR AND THE AFRO-ARAB BORDERLANDS–‘A CLASH OF CIVILISATIONS‘ OR RACISM ?

BF BANKIE:

The problems that the Borderlands raise, being that area of Africa stretching from Sudan on the Red Sea to Mauritania on the Atlantic Ocean, date back thousands of years. That area provides a sharper, historically based, holistic definition of the African personality than that hitherto offered by the Black consciousness movements in the Americas and southern Africa .

The last population census conducted in Sudan was in 1983. Population figures in Sudan,… Continue

South Sudan – the last state in Africa to obtain, in 2011, Independence ?

BF BANKIE:

Lt Gen Joseph Lagu (Rtd), who led the Anya-nya, the freedom fighters of South Sudan, in their fight against the Arab-led Khartoum government, in the first stage, which ran from 1955 to 1972, of the recent phase of the armed struggle , from 1983 to 2005, states in his book ‘ Sudan – Odyssey through a state – From ruin to hope’, quoting from The Anya-nya Manifesto, on family and ethnicity, as follows :-

The root causes of the war in South Sudan and the Anya-nya armed struggle

Many find it difficult to accept the root causes of the last phase of the protracted war in South Sudan , which ran from 1955 to 1972 and from 1983 to 2005. In order to establish the causes, the book of Lt Gen Joseph Lagu (Rtd), entitled ‘Sudan – Odyssey through a state – From ruin to hope’ is drawn upon. The key to understanding Afro-Arab relations, past and present and the relevance of South Sudan is found in the reasons for the conflict.

Lagu, who is alive and well, spending a… Continue

Roots of Sudanese conflict are in the British colonial policies.

Savo Heleta:

January 12, 2008 — What is wrong with Africa? Why is the largest number of failed states on the continent? Is something fundamentally wrong with Africans or could there be another explanation? Trying to find answers to these questions, let’s see what historians and social scientists believe are the roots of the conflict in Sudan, an African country where peace lasted for little over a decade since 1956.

Like in all other parts of the world, there was… Continue

African Union on wrong course

Steve Paterno:

February 5, 2009 — Once again the African Union (AU) has proven to be moving in the wrong direction from the principles it ought to adhere. For over fifty years, the five-decade-old continental organization still showing that it is created solely to protect African ruthless dictators. In the event of its annual summit, in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, the organization first act of shamefulness was to allow itself to be chaired by another dictator,… Continue

Pagan Amum and the International Criminal Court.

Luke Kuth Dak:

FEB. 5/2009, SSN; The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King once said: “An individual who breaks a law that conscience tells him is unjust, and who willingly accepts penalty of imprisonment in order to arouse the conscience of the community over it’s injustice, is in reality expressing the highest respect for the law.”

Justice against Omar al-Bashier is long overdue!

Luke Kuth Dak:

JAN. 27/2009, SSN; Most Sudanese people do not share Dr. Nafia Ali Nafia’s arrogant view that the embattled President of Sudan, Omar Hassan Ahmed al-Basher, is the most qualified man to rule the Sudan, a country with over 40 million folks.

A quick look at his file tells us that nothing could be further from the truth that the claim by the his extremist followers has no chance to hold up it’s ground. After all, the man has no college education, and… Continue
