The Termination of Black Culture:
Is Black Music Month Worth Celebrating
Paul Scott
I recently saw the new blockbuster movie, Terminator Salvation; the latest installment of the Terminator series that started back in the 80's. The Terminator movies are about what happens when a machine called Skynet ,which was originally created to serve mankind ,one day decides to turn on its masters and create a bunch of cyborgs to exterminate humans.

President Obama’s pick of judge Sonia Sotomayor was a supreme choice. I say this not for all the conventional reasons one would expect.
Before I explain my position, let me establish a few facts that will give you the context for my position.
First, a president is entitled to have his nominees confirmed, unless a disqualifying issue is discovered. Disagreeing with a person on abortion, gay rights, or affirmative action…

hetep,
in considering myself a politically conscious afrikan-n-amerikkka, having delved into the various mechanizations that have affected my people for the past five hundred years on this side of the planet, correctly styled by me, as the united snakes of amerikkka, i've come to the conclusion that there will be a dividing line among the black collective masses of my people. an unfortunate line will be drawn or at least the potential of it has a strong chance or rearing its…

No country that commits the sort of truly evil war crimes America has committed recently can possibly rest easy with itself, and no people like the American people can even slightly escape the implications and the weight of our nation's most evil crimes. That is why we are jumpy lately, why there is an edge to our interpersonal relationships that wasn't there ten years ago, and why there is a tone of subdued hysteria in our mass media. That is why "reality" shows (Freud would have a…

For about three weeks now, the British Media have been a having a field day with the inconvenience and embarrassment of British Members of Parliament and the Government in the scandal of the fiddling of expenses by various elected members of the British government.
Many MPs (as we call them) have virtually fallen on their own swords. Cabinet Officers have been forced to resign; some MPs are standing down at the next election (whenever that is called); the Prime Minister himself was…

This is why,
When you have time, you don't have money
When you have money, you don't have time
You don't earn money if your not physically laboring.
You get paid to do things
the same things that someone once laid whips across your ancestors backs to make them do.
before they realized that
1) It be cheaper to just pay people to do them, (until the people could be replaced with machines)
2) If you offer people money, you create competition for…

Last Friday, I received the shocking news of the sudden death of my good friend, Wayman Tisdale. Tisdale played basketball for 3 years at Oklahoma University and 12 years in the N.B.A. (Indiana, Sacramento, and Phoenix).
Upon retiring from basketball, he went on to have a critically acclaimed music career as a jazz bassist. He recorded a total of 8 CDs beginning in 1995 (“Power Forward” on the Motown Label). His last CD, Rebound…

Has anyone paid attention to the expanding list of free tools, instructional material and services meant for collaborative enterprises, especially for mass communication media and alternative energy?
I don't know what anyone is focused on, but I'm looking at the gaps and holes in our communities, with a personal and rather passionate interest in mass media and energy.
Because a lot of our community's attention is placed in consuming shiny, tightly, packaged, melodramatic,…

I'm posting this because I need to muster up the courage to seek forgiveness from someone that I've hurt.
The fact that I love this person more than air is irrelevant to the truth that I caused them pain.
I feel the need to reach out to them to offer them support while they're dealing with an even greater pain.
I'm putting this into the universe in the way that is most comfortable for me.
Because in some odd way this seems somewhat more lasting than just speaking it…

Funerals are funny things, sometimes. Never mind that the dearly departed cheated on his wife, borrowed a small fortune of unpaid loans from friends and habitually kicked his neighbor's dog, according to the pastor during the eulogy, the man was a saint.

Nancy Pelosi is trying to deny that which is applicable to the entire Congress with regard to the international criminality of George “Baby Doc” Bush’s “War on Terrorism,” which is that they went along with and approved of the ends justifying the means, even if that meant subjecting people to torture. Even though America has yet to admit that it engaged in torture, referring to its conduct as “enhanced interrogation techniques” or “what some people call torture,” it is…
