Thanks for your comment: Very well written Roger but if we actually evaluate the political, economic, and social gains of African Americans since Obama has been in office has not improved.
I think that what is important is that we don't fall into the trap of expecting instant gratification. Political, social and economic gains of a subset of the population cannot change overnight. Conditions have changed for some -- those forerunners who are out in front of opportunities in education, business, and political shifts. The real challenge is for those who benefit from early opportunities to stay the course and leverage their progress to help others.. Obama has made more money available to HBCU's. What are they going to do about that in the long term. More money has been directed to Charter Schools, where 905 of those attending are Black children. How are we going to respond to this opportunity to take charge of our schools?
What is required is the removal of some structural barriers. They don't move quickly, but we should be persistent and unwavering in our attack nonetheless. I believe that the Obama administration represents support for our cause. The fight is ours to win.
