Derrick M. Guest Bio
Derrick M. Guest, CEO and Co-Owner of Griot’s Roll Film Production & Services Inc., son of the late Mr. Benjamin Guest & Mrs. Cynthia Guest was raised in the South Bronx. Derrick graduated from City-As-School an alternative High School. City-As-School is where he found his love for storytelling and earned his academic high school diploma. Mr. Guest earned his Associates degree from Queens Borough College, where he majored in Performing Arts and minored in Business Management and Marketing. He received his Bachelors Degree from Brooklyn College in Film Production.
Mr. Guest has experience as a playwright having written the Off-Broadway Play "Choices" for the Negro Ensemble Company. He has extensive experience in writing and directing short films such as “30 Minutes of Pleasure”, “The Grade” and “Loneliness” as well as directing television pilots.
Derrick M. Guest determined to become an entrepreneur, while working in the media industries created Griot’s Roll Film Production & Services Inc. Griot’s means (Story Teller in Western Africa) is a maturing company specializing in video marketing, video production, video editing, video consulting and web distribution, established in 2004.
Griot's Roll has been featured in The New York Amsterdam News, The Manhattan Times, Rolling Out Magazine, Black Enterprise Magazine (May 2009), Crain’s Business New York (November 2009) and Essences Magazine (February 2010). Mr. Guest personal accomplishments has been nominated three years in a row for the Entrepreneur of the Year Award for Project Enterprise, the last two years he made the top ten. He recently won the 2011 British Airways Face of Opportunity Video Marketing Contest where Mr. Guest and his company were flown to the UK February 2011 to network with other entrepreneurs to build and grow their business. Derrick M. Guest was a panelist for the Greater Harlem Chamber of Commerce “Business Plan Contest on Marketing and Media” and on the panel discussion “Improve Your Brand By Using Video On-line”. Mr. Guest has just recently created the Marketing Mogul Seminar Series for business owners looking to improve their marketing plan. Eula M. Young, daughter of the late John D. Young & Mrs. Gertrude Young, was raised in the south Bronx, New York, and graduated from William Howard Taft High School with an Academic Diploma. Ms. Young graduated in 2005 with her Bachelors in Business Administration from Metropolitan College of New York, and completed business courses at the Workshop in Business Opportunities (WIBO) class of 2009. Eula M. Young lives with her husband and partner Derrick M. Guest and their daughter Shassee.
Ms. Young has developed a sharp eye for business as the Chief Operating Officer & co-owner of Griot’s Roll Film Production & Services Inc. a video marketing, video production, video editing and video consulting company. Ms. Young was the Publicist for the off Broadway Play “Choices” a production produced by The Negro Ensemble Company this started Ms. Young on her public relations journey.
As an entrepreneur who quickly helped build Griot’s Roll into its own successful business, is a social media and on-line marketing expert. Ms. Young was interviewed for The Manhattan Times, The Amsterdam News, Black Enterprise Magazine (May 2009) featuring article, “Learn Cost Effective Ways to run their Business in These Hard Economic Times.” Ms. Young has appeared in Sister’s Agenda Magazine, North Dallas Gazette Business Weekly (June 2009), Workshop in Business Opportunities (Fall 2009) newsletter, and Essence Magazine (February 2010). Ms. Young contributes tips to The Entreprenette Gazette an on-line blog newsletter, The Toilet Paper Entrepreneur on-line blog newsletter and Harlem World on-line magazine. In 2011 Ms. Young is in the new book entitled: Mogul Mom – How to Quit Your Job, Start Your Own Business, and Join the Work-at-Home Revolution. As one of the 250 winners of the 2011 British Airways Face of Opportunity Video Contest, just back from London, England as part of the British Airways Face of Opportunity 2 day Conference.
Ms. Young was a panelists for The Phenomenal Women Group Inc. at Medgar Evers College on “Women, Gender & Media”, guest speaker for Northern Manhattan Perinatal Partnership Inc. “Beyond Health Care Reform: The Role of Interconceptional Care in Reinventing Maternal & Child Health” and the Black Data Processing Associates NY - 2010 Black Family Technology Awareness Week "Cost Effective Solutions for Business Owners". Ms. Young was a guest speaker at SoBro Entrepreneurial Awards Gala Salute to Business Owners Networking Reception (June 2010) and on the panel for Fast Track To Solopreneur Success Meet-Up Group “Effective Video & Social Media Marketing”(January 2011).
Ms. Young is teaching courses to small business owners and entrepreneurs entitled "Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin: How to Maximize Social Media, “Learn How to Setup and Use Social Networking Accounts Including Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin" and Social Media Etiquette Do’s and Don’ts.
Ms. Young received the 2009 Real Sister’s Rising Certificate of Achievement Award and the 2009 Real Sisters Rising – Rising Star Award, Certificate from Fordham University Graduate School of Education Partnership Support Organization for active participation in Parents Association of The Henry H. Garnet School for Success (June 2009), Parent’s Association Volunteer Awards from The Henry H. Garnet School for Success School Leadership Team (June 2010).
