Toronto celebrate 30 years of AFROFEST - Music Africa to create New Guinness World Record putting together largest Djembe Drum Ensemble

AFROFEST Set to Break Guinness Record for Largest Djembe Ensemble this Weekend 

To celebrate 30 years of AFROFEST, Music Africa will attempt to create a New Guinness World Record by putting together the largest Djembe Drum Ensemble. This event is open to everyone: every race, nationality, background, drumming level. The festival is attempting to break two world records: for creating the largest djembe drum ensemble and for the most nationalities playing the djembe drum simultaneously, highlighting Toronto's diversity. A Guinness World Record representative will be present at the event. This aspect of the festival will take place at Woodbine Park on July 08, between 9:00 am and 12:00 pm.

Scheduled for Saturday July 7th and Sunday July 8th, the 2018 edition of AFROFEST is featuring a dynamic selection of acts from over 20 countries, including Congo, Ghana, Burkina Faso, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Burundi, Morocco, Jamaica and more presenting different vocal, music, drumming, dance, traditional and contemporary artistic styles. Headlining international acts include: Congolese Roga Roga & Extra Musica celebrating 25 years in music, Ivory Coast's Afro-Zouk singer Monique Sekaand Cameroon's Queen of Bikutsi, Lady Ponce.

Also performing at the festival are: Toronto's own Juno award winning multinational group Okavango, Nigerian-Canadian Afro-pop/hip hop recording artist Dice Ailes, Ugandan African popular music artist Eddy Kenzo alongside the ground-breaking dance group The Ghetto Kids and lots more! The festival's musical programming reflects the artistic diversity of Africa and the community in Toronto.

AFROFEST is North America's largest free African street festival, attracting over 100,000 visitors to Woodbine Park, Toronto over two days. It celebrates African music and culture, by highlighting its cultural beauty and diversity in food, fashion, art, crafts and performers.
