Heroin has reached epidemic proportions throughout the country and Native America is the hardest hit demographic with this disease. The Mashpee Wampanoag tribe, whose membership numbers below 3,000 people has been experiencing an average of one death per month due to opioid overdoses or prolonged usage.

Soul Poet's Syndicate is a spoken-word collective comprised of primarily Native American MCs, poets and storytellers and grew out of the SKL Artist Mentoring Program.
