Event Description

Our organization focuses on African dance, music and the environment but 100% of our staff, volunteers, donors and supporters are immigrants. Knowing that artists are always the last to be helped and knowing that folk artists are on the bottom of that pile, we would like to host this forum to create a safe space where friends of immigrants as well as immigrants can meet and discuss immigration.
We understand that it is easy to make judgments when the people affected are not in your circle but more and more everyday from stories of neighborhood staples being dragged from sleeping beds to professors not being allowed through the border, Immigration has become everyone's problem. No one has stories of what artists go through or any accounts of how they have been affected by the new immigration laws.
The Mayor's Office of Immigrants Affairs, the United African Congress, Bedford Stuyvesant Residents Association, Inc., as well as HumanitiesNY are helping us host this event to assist immigrants on their path to legal status or citizenship. If you or anyone you know are in need of these services, feel free to just show up. We understand the fear that you are going through right now and want to do our best to alleviate your stress, especially, if you work in the folk arts or African Arts.

We are also building a registry for friends of immigrants or people generally interested in Immigration Issues.  Please RSVP before April 15th, 2017 at Sirenprotect@... since there will be limited space.

I look forward to seeing you at this very important Immigration Forum Discussion.
